If you follow us on social media, you know that I’ve been going on and on about how much I love this time of year. I truly love the transition from the heat of summer to the crispness of autumn. I love the change of foliage and the harvest moon. I love getting back into my cozy sweaters and sipping coffee on a cool morning. It is a welcome change of pace after all the activity and sweating during the summer months. As a self-confessed nerd, I even love back to school time. This is my season.

Even with all the great things I just listed, the best is the time we take each November to reflect on the things we are most thankful for. That sounds so trite, doesn’t it? However, I truly appreciate what this season brings out in me and the yearly prompt to look over what has come our way this past year and express gratefulness. In light of that, here is Trail Mom’s list of things I’m thankful for in 2019.
1 My family. I don’t mean to be cliche with this one. I guess I should say that I am thankful for the shape of my family. We often get comments about the age gap between our younger daughter and our son. It’s 5 ½ years. We were headed out of toddler territory and well into sleeping in on weekends for the first time since starting our family. Then our little buddy came along! He has completed our family in a way that we didn’t know it was unfinished. It’s hard to put into words, but we are five now and I can’t imagine it any other way.

2 My small town. We’ve mentioned in other blogs that we live in a small trail town in Northeast Pennsylvania. We have the privilege of taking part in a revitalization effort here in our home town that centers on trail activities. It has been of immense benefit to us as a family and part of the inspiration for TRAIL FAMILY. There is no other place that I would want us to put down roots and raise our family. No offense to our big city friends, but small town livin’ is what’s for us.
3 Starting the TRAIL FAMILY blog and social media pages. I’ve been wanting to cultivate some kind of internet presence for some time now. What held me back was that I didn’t have the right idea at the right time. When my husband Tim came up with the idea for TRAIL FAMILY, I knew that this is what I had been looking for. It has been an experience in growth, humility, and learning to work with the people closest to me. We’ve had some rough edges to smooth out and we are still working on them, but it has been an amazing experience so far.

This is by no means a complete list of all the things that I could express gratitude for this year. That list could go on forever as I’m sure yours could as well. These are the top few that I wanted to share with all of you. Hopefully it has inspired you all to reflect on 2019 and count your blessings.
I will give thanks to you LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of your wonderful deeds
