Sometimes I can’t believe that Tim and I will celebrate our 15th anniversary this year! It’s been a great adventure together. In that time we have moved states, finished multiple graduate degrees, bought and fixed up a home, had three children, and started trailfamily.blog. Sometimes the days have been long, but the years have definitely been short.
If you’ve followed us for a while, you’ll know that I did not come to this relationship as an “outdoorsy” girl. I had never even been camping before Tim and I got married. But he shared his love of the outdoors with me, and I grew to love it too. Now we live in a trail town that gives us so many great opportunities to get out with our whole family or just on trail dates together.

Since Valentine’s day is coming, I’d like to just take a few lines to brag on my man a little. He has been the greatest human influence for good in my life. I used to be the totally quiet, in my shell, leave me alone with my book kind of person. Not sure why, but he saw something in me that he liked and decided to draw me out of that shell. He challenges me to be the best version of myself every day, and I know that he gives me his best too. He is a rare kind and I’m lucky to have him.
I always knew he would be a fantastic dad because of how he interacted with his cousins who are much younger than he is. When we started dating as teenagers, several of his cousins were in kindergarten or younger. He was more like a fun uncle to them and I could see that he genuinely enjoyed spending time with them.
Despite the fact that he has taken up the habit of “dad jokes”, our kids love being with their dad. He makes sure that he has time and energy for each of them. Part of the reason he wanted us to start TRAIL FAMILY is that he loves being with our kids and sharing his love of nature with them and myself too. We even have TRAIL FAMILY date nights.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Tim!
