There is so much fun to be had outdoors all year round. During spring and summer we like to ride on the trail most. This year the girls got into mountain biking also. Winter is time for sleigh rides and snowshoes. But an activity that we love as a family all through the year is reading together. I thought I would share with you some wonderful books for your youngest little trailblazers. My list comes from books we have on our shelf that Calvin enjoys over and over again.
Curious George in the Snow
This is one of the classic George books. Take a ski trip with George and the Man in the Yellow has and see what mischief they make on the slopes.
Curious George Makes Maple Syrup
This book is one of the more modern George stories. It’s sweet and educational all together. See George and his friend Ally learn where maple syrup comes from and make a batch of their very own.

The True Story of Smokey Bear
This book which is really more of a comic book is available for free from the forestry department. Learn how Smokey came to be. Lexi also especially loves this book. She can tell you the story by heart!
Bear Grylls Extreme Planet
This selection is newer for us so we haven’t explored it fully yet. It is filled with information about animals, environments, and plants. It is not a story but a fun fact book. The photos and colors are bright and engaging. If you are familiar with Usborne books you know they hit it out of the park every time.

I hope this list encourages you to check out some of these selections and enjoy reading about outdoor themes and activities when you are inside during these cozy winter months. What are your favorite outdoor books?
